Is Matter Real ? What is matter made up of?

Any object of experience has two aspects inherent in it due to which it is called an object. They are,

a) Qualities — Name, form, taste etc. are the qualities
b) Substance or Mass — the massive matter in it.

Name and form can exist through memories even if matter is destroyed .Name and form exist in a past can be accessed using mind. Hence we can say:

a) Physical world exists in present time only; there is no past for physical world
b)
Mind exists in past time only; Mind is a collection of past memories.

When you are in ‘NOW’ moment,Mind vanishes.

Let us try to define a substance in terms of energy and momentum present in it instead of its mass content. If E is the energy content and p the momentum of a substance at any time t,

E/p = u, the energy-momentum ratio of the substance.

According to relativity, relation between energy and momentum of a substance is similar to the relation between its space and time. Energy content of an electromagnetic wave is given by,

E = p. c

u indicates the quantitative ratio of space to time totally present in the space-time field of the substance. Let us call u as guna, the factor that determines property of the substance.

Case 1: Waking World: It is evident that a substance is a massive matter (physical matter) when the value of guna u > c. When this space to time ratio inherent in a substance is greater than c which is the ratio of space to time inherent in sense organ [electromagnetic field] that substance is sensible to our sense organs in a condensed form in space and it is massive in nature.

Case 2: Dream World: It is a tachyon when u < c.

With the value of u < c, ratio of space to time inherent in the substance is less than that in sense organ. As a result the substance is not available in a condensed form in space to our sense organs for perception being subtler than themselves and our sense organs fail to recognise it. As a result, property of mass which is a sense property is not present in that substance. It is recognised only in name and form by the mind — made of tachyons. Thus, it is unreal and imaginary to a sense centred being even though they are as real as the massive substance, if the latter is considered as real by an experiencer.

In other words, massiveness of a substance is a phenomenon observed in it when space-time field representing that substance is sensible in a condensed form to our sense organs as a result of its energy-momentum ratio being greater than c.

Value of u (Guna) determines the state of each substance. When u is high the substance is gross and when it is low substance is subtler. Thus, massiveness is not essential for reality of a substance.

It is one of the relative stages of matter where its guna is high enough to transform it into a sensible form. In an absolute sense physical matter is real only to the extend images and imaginations are real. The deep sense of reality exhibited by us towards physical world is due to our extreme identification with sense organs.
